The creative mind is like a flame, bright and eager to grow. Left alone, this flame will stay small or burn out completely. Art Education exists to fuel the flame and to stoke the fire within those of all ages. Creativity is not only best used in artistic fields, but also serves to better the whole of society. 

Collectively, we take up the task of imparting a passion for the arts, and perhaps more importantly, foster the small flames of creativity. Art Education is not just an academic path, but a lifestyle. There is a delicate balance between the artist and the educator within us.

This program allows us to take hold of our own path, to decide for ourselves what our personal work will say or what purpose it will serve, in any medium.

In the Department of Art + Design, we are surrounded by educators and artists—both peers and professors alike— who model this very practice. As mentors, they will continue to influence and shape us on our journey onward.
