As an artist and designer, I find that creating original work helps to strengthen one’s purpose by providing a chance to explore and discover meaning.
I see painting as a way to express my personal interests and feelings, while graphic design has led me to appreciate the complexities of creating something that is both purposeful and attentive to the needs of an audience.
My most recent work presents scenes that are a blend of fantasy and reality, including imagery often found in pop culture. I question why much of American pop culture obsesses over and idealizes other cultures, and so I look to the southern landscape for answers. I find that romanticized beauty can often blur a harsh reality, and that dissatisfaction with the American culture and visual landscape can lead some to wander for an escape through various forms of media and entertainment.
